Tight deadlines aren’t unusual in the website development and graphic design industry, and there’s no greater reward than helping a client complete an important project on short notice. For the M.A.G.I.C. Clinic’s booth at the Lilac Festival, they wanted to promote their project FAUN, which specializes in genetic testing for pet health. The challenge was that a website landing page and a brochure needed to be completed in just three days.

Due to the tight deadline, I chose to develop the landing page with WIX, as its free templates and ease-of-use would allow me to work quickly. For the brochure, I traditionally craft them by hand with Adobe Illustrator, but as time was a looming factor, I decided to design it through the graphic design platform Canva. Canva’s customizable templates and vast array of stock images allowed me to save time that would otherwise have been spent gathering free-to-use images and creating graphics for the brochure in Illustrator.

With complete creative freedom, I used the welcoming yet bold orange colour from FAUN’s logo to develop a colour scheme that would be consistent on both the landing page and the brochure. Utilizing DNA imagery and stock photos of dogs helped to convey to the viewers what FAUN was about at just a glance.

Although both WIX and Canva’s templates greatly speed up the design process, a trained eye helps ensure that the finalized product will work as intended, with a professional look. Ensuring that the brochure was print-ready and making sure the content flowed in a logical and readable fashion were priorities. As for the landing page, I ensured that the mobile responsive version of the landing page was readable and user-friendly.

Even with a tight deadline, being adaptable and using the right design tools for the job made sure the finalized project hit the client’s targets.
